Kubernetes Administrator (CKA-Style) Real Cluster Management

Prove you can manage production Kubernetes clusters, not just theory.

About This Assessment

Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) certification is essential for container orchestration roles as Kubernetes is the de facto platform for enterprise containerized workloads. While CKA is performance-based, employers still need additional validation that candidates can troubleshoot real cluster issues, implement security best practices, and manage production workloads under realistic constraints.

What Candidates Will Do

1

Deploy a multi-tier application using Deployments, Services, and ConfigMaps with proper resource limits

2

Troubleshoot and fix a broken cluster where pods are in CrashLoopBackOff or Pending state

3

Implement RBAC to restrict namespace access and create ServiceAccounts with limited permissions

4

Perform cluster maintenance including node drain, backup etcd, and restore from backup

5

Configure network policies to enforce pod-to-pod communication restrictions

Automated Grading

Verify deployments are running with correct replicas and resource constraints, troubleshooting resolves pod failures, RBAC rules correctly limit access per specification, etcd backup is valid and restorable, network policies successfully restrict traffic between namespaces, and services are accessible via correct endpoints.

Environment

3-node Kubernetes cluster (1 control plane, 2 worker nodes) running k3s or kubeadm on Ubuntu 22.04. Pre-install kubectl, helm, etcdctl, and provide kubeconfig. Introduce intentional misconfigurations for troubleshooting task (e.g., incorrect image tag, missing PVC, resource quota exceeded).
